The 12th Annual ‘Fantasea’ Mum’s Mail High Tea in association with The Sunflower Fund took place on Friday 1 September at Durban’s Greyville Convention Centre.
With 650 guests, this has become one of the biggest ladies-only events on the Durban social calendar, and the main purpose is to raise funds and awareness for The Sunflower Fund. This enables The Fund to give hope of life to patients diagnosed with life threatening blood disorders who are in need of a blood stem cell transplant. This year a staggering R274 000 was raised for this cause!
Guests went all out to dress to the ‘Fantasea’ theme and the venue looked like a mystical underwater wonderland, complete with shirtless mermen and Poseidon on a throne!
The ladies all enjoyed a magnificent feast by Eat Greek Caterers while being entertained by John Ellis, Percy Smith, Anne-Marie Clulow, Bryan Hiles, Rowan Bartlett and MC, Olivia Symcox. The main speaker, marine biologist Pam Le Noury, delivered an informative talk about ocean conservation and encouraged guests to do their bit to reduce their ‘footprint’ on the earth.
Guests were also able to shop up a storm at the wide range of pop-up shops selling everything from shoes and jewellery to décor and clothes.
The support from the guests was phenomenal and they all spent generously to buy raffle tickets and surprise envelopes, the proceeds of which all went to The Sunflower Fund. There were seven large raffle packages valued at more than R85 000 up for grabs and prizes for the top three Best Dressed guests, Best Dressed Table of 10, Most Creative Headpiece, Pregnant Fairy and Most Melodious Mermaid (chosen via a very enthusiastic Yellow Submarine sing-along). Every guest went home with an amazing goodie bag packed with treats and a booklet full of vouchers from the more than 250 generous sponsors.
A big thank you to headline sponsors Baby City, IBV Gold, La Lucia Mall and Private Property, as well as associate sponsors The Smile Emporium and Greyville Convention Centre, Nivea, Chateau Gateaux, The Creativity Lab, Buds in a Ro, Smart Resource Designs, Makulu Events, Wired Media, Black Coffee, Nan West Photography, So Schick Photography, Aisle Hire It, Fabric & Bridal, Laborie, Pop Up Coffee, Joekels, Ciro and iNsingizi Game Lodge & Spa.
