Deborah from Lunchbox Lifesavers has some great advice and some Back to School Lunchbox Ideas!
With the dramatic increase in childhood obesity and diabetes, it truly does pay to put a bit of thought into how best to cram that lunchbox with nutrients, vitamins and minerals that are vital for our children’s health and growth.
And while there’s nothing wrong with a sandwich, a piece of fresh fruit and some vegetables, there’s also nothing particularly interesting about it either, so we need to find way to present it to them in a more fun and creative way.
Here are some fun ideas to spice up your kid’s lunchbox:
- Use small Cookie Cutters to add a bit of fun into an otherwise boring lunchbox. Include heart-shaped sliced cheese in with snap peas. Trust me, the kids will notice and enjoy the fun!
- Put a Temporary Tattoo on the skin of a banana. So simple, and the kids love it.
- Use a LunchPunch or a sandwich cutter to create shapes and fun with an otherwise boring sandwich.
- Use Silicon Muffin Cups in the lunchbox to add some fun and eye-appeal to an otherwise boring lunch.
- Spiralise a carrot or a cucumber, you will be amazed at how the difference in presentation can turn an otherwise boring vegetable into a bit of fun.
- Adding a kids’ effervescent tablet like Sunlife Multivitamin tablet to their bottle of water adds flavour and gives them a boost of vitamins during the day.
At the end of the day there is no ‘magical lunchbox’, it’s all about doing the best that we can to provide healthier options for our children, given our hectic lifestyles and schedules.
