The Ballito whale saga has finally ended . . . the carcass has been cut up and removed.
The 15 ton humpback whale has finally been removed from Boulders Beach, Ballito. When The Ridge Online arrived on the scene on Friday morning there was a pungent smell along Compensation Beach Road, Ballito and the huge crowds that had been populating the scene were long gone.
A few curious onlookers milled around and, according to their reports, a number of locals had had a go at the whale, cutting off sections of whale meat and then packing it into plastic bags, before the municipality moved in and finished off the job.
A large towing vehicle and earth moving equipment were still at the beach but there were no officials or emergency services personnel at the site. A sign reminded onlookers that the scene was a health hazard . . . and the noxious smell of decomposed whale remains confirmed that.
