The Sunflower Fund in KZN celebrated National Bandana Day with a ‘Big Bandana Bash’ at the Heritage Theatre in Hillcrest on Friday 11 October.
Over 200 guests dressed in their best cowboy and cowgirl outfits and wearing the latest Sunflower Bandanas were entertained by Marion Loudon and Lyle Buxton from Country Roads.
Caron Whateley and Ross Leah were awarded the prize for best-dressed cowgirl and cowboy.
The entertainment, delicious meal and hugely successful charity auction conducted by Keith Green of Park Village Auctions made this a most enjoyable evening.
Round Table Southern Africa has supported The Sunflower Fund since its inception in 2000 and has made the sale of Sunflower Bandanas a national project for the past eleven years, so it was wonderful to see Marketing and Public Relations Representative, Mike Milne, hand over a check for R1, 161 250 from the Round Table’s sale of bandanas over the past two months.
This amount will be added to the R33 865 raised on the evening and will be used to pay for the issue typing of potential bone marrow stem cell donors for the inclusion on the South African Bone Marrow Registry.
The more donors on the Registry, the more hope leukaemia sufferers have of finding their 1:100 000 life-saving donor match.
The Sunflower Fund would like to thank everyone who bought a Sunflower Bandana and wore it on National Bandana Day, 12 October, to show solidarity for leukaemia sufferers undergoing chemotherapy while awaiting a bone marrow stem cell transplant.
