Hundreds of people have died in floods and mudslides in the mountain areas north of Brazil, Rio de Janiero. Watch this dramatic video of the rescue of a woman who was perilously perched on a rooftop with her dog. Against all odds the woman survived; her pet, unfortunately, did not make it.
Meanwhile in the Northern Cape, authorities are on full alert and have warned residents to be wary of the threat posed by the Orange River, were it to burst its banks. Several high risk communities have been evacuated in the Upington area.
There is also a high chance of further rain in the city of Johannesburg, with Gauteng already having suffered extensive flooding recently.

That brought tears to my eyes…what a tragic event…it makes you think twice before complaining about the weather conditions that we have been experiencing in Durban! We might have had a lot of rain, but at least we haven’t experienced what Brazil or Australia have had to deal with!
