International Day for People with Disabilities (IDPD) is celebrated annually on 3 December and South Africa recognises the month of November as National Disability Month. Epilepsy South Africa would like to encourage people to get more involved in making a difference to people living with disability.
It is important to always include people with disabilities. Focus on the removal of barriers to create an inclusive and accessible society that would benefit all South Africans, especially those with disabilities.
People are also encouraged to host forums, public discussions and information campaigns to find innovative ways and means to break down barriers to the inclusion of persons with disabilities and their families.
Celebrate by planning and organising performances showcasing and celebrating the contributions made by persons with disabilities as agents of change and development in their communities.
Share your success stories with Epilepsy South Africa at www.epilepsy.org.za/celebrating_achievements and read other people’s inspirational stories.
Epilepsy South Africa would like to take this opportunity to inform South Africans that through their support, Epilepsy South Africa can provide reliable and ongoing resources to those living with the condition, and act immediately and effectively on acts of violation to those with disabilities.
