In just six months, Banc has grown from ideation to a burgeoning local decor brand that sells stylish handcrafted homeware and lighting. Created by Josie Hardy, the practical yet trendy pieces have been an instant hit with friends and customers.
Her rose gold copper and solid oak wood creations caught the eye of the Design Indaba too, and this year she was flown to Cape Town to share the floor with dozens of other emerging creatives. Currently studying a BBA in Brand Building and Management at Vega (finishing 2017), the Highway resident has always considered herself a “maker” and learnt basic carpentry and DIY skills from her dad.
Last year, she started making furniture and home decor for her friends and it was those friends who encouraged her to start something concrete. – Megan Rich
