I’m no golfer, but you don’t need to be one at Hluhluwe’s Amorello Bush Golf Lodge
The former pineapple farm is now a fab getaway for club-swinging experts and their families, and boasts an immaculate nine-hole course (which plays off a 188 tee-box). With the Lebombo Mountains as a backdrop, and a herd of impala munching peacefully on the green, the 45ha property is bound to draw loads of fans, and not just because of the course.
Your hosts are Ampie and Ronel Vorster and you couldn’t find a more hospitable pair. The getaway is surprisingly affordable (R500 per person B&B) and accommodates 32 guests in total (sharing). The thatched main building has an extended boma with an open air bar and restaurant, overlooking the driving range and mountains, and nearby is a children’s play area. Amorello can hold 80 guests banquet style in the Oasis Functions Room, and weddings and conferences are welcomed. There’s also a small gym here, by the way.
Game on the property includes antelope like duiker, nyala, reedbuck and blue wildebeest, and next door, at Amorello’s luxury lodge Ihlozi, you’ll also find zebra and giraffe.
Ihlozi is a gorgeous five-star hideaway with ponds, outdoor showers and three-corner-baths …and big fat overstuffed sofas and sumptuous décor. Sleeps eight.
