Butcher Block Hillcrest is part of the Butcher Block group of restaurants founded in 2003 by Manual Savic. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Butcher Block Hillcrest has been temporarily closed, however with the adjusted lockdown rules and regulations, Butcher Block has decided to relaunch the Hillcrest branch – which had already become a landmark restaurant in the area.
“We are proud to be a brand that was able to find success during the Covid-19 pandemic, and we are excited to continue to ride that wave,” says Jay Ramnundllal, CEO of Butcher Block. “Our record growth is a testament to the hard work of our employees and our commitment to provide a world-class dining experience. Winning the ‘Best Restaurant Group in Africa’ Award is a demonstration of consistency in exceptional food quality and service across all our restaurants.
“We are grateful to Growthpoint’s management team who has facilitated a more favourable trading arrangement, thus enabling us to reopen the restaurant and also upgrade certain aspects of the restaurant,” says Jay.
On receiving the 2021 Best Restaurant Group in Africa Award and Global Awards™, here’s what Operations General Manager of the Butcher Block Group, Shorne Uylate, had to say; “Considered one of the most anticipated awards on the hospitality industry calendar, Haute Grandeur is recognised as one of the world’s leading hospitality awards, acknowledging the top-notch in hospitality experiences across 7 continents and more than 60 countries.”
Butcher Block has a proud history in achieving great dining experience awards and recognition. These include being voted the Best Steakhouse in KwaZulu Natal by Eat Out magazine in 2019, and the following year winning the Haute Grandeur Global Awards in three categories; viz Best Cuisine in Africa, Best Grill house in Africa and Best Luxury Family Restaurant in South Africa.
Butcher Block thrives on customer experience and catering to the need of their diverse diners – which includes offerings such as the “Lekker Lunch Special”, allowing diners to choose from one of five options and receiving a free glass of red or white Durbanville Hills wine, and “The Dinner Special”, a choice of premium Chalmar wet-aged beef – either fillet, rump or sirloin, again receiving a free glass of red or white Durbanville Hills wine. Monday has the “Bottomless Prawns”, and Tuesday a “Bottomless Pork Rib” special. The “Wine and Whiskey Special” promotes an exclusive Butcher Block sommeliers section, including the “Diamond” Shiraz Mourvede 2017 red wine, “an infinity range that capitavtes the true beauty and infinte charm only the Cape Winelands wishes to unveil” for only R79 (750ml bottle).
