In celebration of International Day of Action for Women’s Health on 28 May, Pharmacy at SPAR Brownsdrift is offering special rates for pap smear screenings for the whole month of May (by appointment only)! The all-female staff at Pharmacy at SPAR Brownsdrift encourage all women to put their health first and get their yearly pap smear done this month.
They hope to create awareness of cervical cancer and enforce the idea that prevention is better than cure! According to www.westerncape.gov.za, South Africa’s incidence rate for cervical cancer is between 22.8 and 27 per 100 000 women; which is higher than the global average of 15.8.
Pharmacy at SPAR Brownsdrift has a fully functional dispensary with over the counter and prescription medication and is overseen by a responsible pharmacist with 15 years of retail, logistics and hospital experience. They are also supported by a network of locum pharmacists that have Masters and/or Doctorates.
The pharmacy services cash customers as well as medical aid customers and is a Discovery MedExpress Pharmacy. Pharmacy at SPAR Brownsdrift recently became part of the GEMS Medical Aid Provider network. Members must contact GEMS and nominate them to be their preferred pharmacy.
The pharmacy is now a pick up point for the Central Chronic Medicines Dispensing & Distribution Programme (CCMDD). They also offer a delivery service within Riverside, Durban North, Durban CBD, Springfield Park, Mt Edgecombe and Umhlanga, plus they are part of a mini Medical Centre with a dentist and an optometrist.
There is a fully functional clinic which offers the following services:
· Baby Clinic: immunisation and weight
· Family planning
· Cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, iron levels, prostate antigen assay screening tests.
· Wound care
· Vitamin and anti-inflammatory injections with a valid doctor’s prescription
· Discovery Vitality assessment where member earns points
· Flu vaccination for the entire family
· Hire of surgical equipment e.g. wheelchairs, nebulisers and crutches.
