It was a day full of emotion and national pride in Chile as the miners trapped deep beneath the Atacama desert were all raised to safety. There was even a strong South African presence, as a drilling team from South African company Murray & Roberts assisted in the historic rescue bid.
People around the world were glued to their screens as rescuers and engineers cautiously hoisted the workers one-by-one to the surface in their custom designed rescue capsule. Some of the miners were relatively subdued, others celebrated with family and friends as they finally reached the surface after months underground.
