The latest eThekwini “stand-by” load shedding schedule to arrive in our post via cyberspace yesterday looked official enough, but the eThekwini Municipality Electricity Department has confirmed that it’s a hoax. Offices resounded yesterday with moans and groans as people opened e-mails with the rather depressing news that the city had developed a stand-by schedule in case of further load shedding. The e-mails included the city colours and an official-looking logo, which had some people concerned. According to the e-mail, the “schedule” would commence from Monday, October 18. The heading of the mail was: “Following is a load shedding schedule that people are advised to keep.”
Was Durban North hit by earth tremor?
Most people, however, immediately dismissed the e-mail as a prank (a nasty one, at that). We’d like to hear your comments. Note: The eThekwini Municipality has confirmed that this e-mail was a hoax. There is a stand-by schedule on the municipality’s website, but on that document there is no indication of imminent plans to implement such a schedule.
