ChilliPlum: ahead of the rest

By The Crest Magazine21/09/20172 Mins Read

Jaguar Land Rover Durban is not just a car dealership – it’s an experience, offering two iconic British brands and brought to life by a team who are attentive to their customers’ preferences. So too is ChilliPlum restaurant in Hillcrest

ChilliPlum is a joining of passions for people and food. Owner Ursula Haupt opened the doors in July 2015 and, by November, her husband and chef, Robert, had joined her in creating an upmarket, yet casual eatery. Tucked away in Richdens Centre Phase 2, this contemporary fusion restaurant oozes sophistication. The open-plan kitchen is awash with aromas of future indulgences and the warm welcome makes you feel right at home.

The wine list has been artfully-selected, while a range of local craft beers and a cocktail menu complete the drinks selection.

Marrying it all together is the menu: seasonal, organic, where possible, and always fresh. Chef Robert explains that “in keeping it simple, we rely on the quality of our ingredients to get the best flavours. Our meats are all free-range, growth hormone free and grass fed, and we grow all of our own herbs and most of our salad leaves – organically, of course!”

The menu has been specially designed for meat-eaters, banters, vegans and vegetarians alike. Tuesday’s wine evenings feature some of the finest estates in the country; rib-eye steak washed down with a craft beer is the Thursday night special; and fish caught on Thursday makes it to the specials board for Friday.

ChilliPlum’s range of dairy-free desserts are delicious and decadent, including a selection of homemade herbal ice-creams and dark chocolate truffles.

ChilliPlum is open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, and Sunday for lunch only. This is a restaurant that encapsulates all that makes a brand great.

Whether you’re looking to drive the finest car or for an exceptional dining experience, Jaguar Land Rover Durban and ChilliPlum Hillcrest are at the top of their game.
