Christmas came early for Kloof SPCA

Romaine, Kotie and Gabana celebrate the arrival of 80 bags of Montego dog food

Kotie and Lorraine Hattingh, regular supporters of the SPCA, were saving up to buy 12 packets of Montego Classic Pet Nutrition to hand over to the Kloof SPCA at the beginning of December, but had a change of plan after popping into their local Northdene store to buy food for their own animals.

According to Romaine Baker, the owner of the Montego agency in Rapson Road, Northdene, the Kloof SPCA had phoned her earlier that day in a panic to say that they only had one bag of food left and weren’t sure how they were going to last the weekend. They enquired whether there was anything that she could do to help.

“When Kotie and Lorraine popped in, I asked them whether they would be prepared to bring their contribution forward and donate the 12 bags to the SPCA immediately, instead of in December,” continued Romaine.

Not only did they come to the rescue, then and there, but they decided to use the funds from an investment policy which had just matured to increase their donation from 12 to 40 25kg bags.

“I was so moved by this selfless gesture that I emailed the details to Montego’s head office and, on hearing this touching story, the company agreed to match the Hattingh’s generous donation,” explained Romaine.

It was an exciting day for the Hattinghs when 80 bags of 25kg Montego Classic Pet Nutrition arrived at the Kloof SPCA.

When asked what made them spend their investment on pet food, Kotie and Lorraine explained that animals don’t have a voice and, in turn, can’t fend for themselves. “We believe it is our responsibility to be the voice of these helpless animals.”

Should you wish to join the Hattinghs and help homeless animals, please pop into the Montego agency, which is situated at 3 Rapson Road, Northdene and speak to Romaine who will be giving a discount to clients purchasing pet food for the non-profit organisation. She will then organise for the food to be delivered to the SPCA in Kloof on your behalf.
