South Africa’s Champion Barista, Craig Charity will demonstrate his talents at Decorex Durban, with visitors able to sample his specialty coffees at the show.
Coffee is officially the most consumed beverage around the world and the Decorex SA team are bang on trend in introducing visitors to the country’s hottest property in coffee!
Craig Charity of Lineage Coffee and Stretta Café fame is one of the many lifestyle personalities set to add to the ideas and inspiration on offer at the exhibition. Decorex Durban takes place over the Human Rights Day weekend, from 20 to 23 March 2014, at the Durban Exhibition Centre and promises to be an inspiring day out.
One of the highlights of Decorex Durban is the theatre featuring interactive cooking and entertaining demos by some of the city’s culinary and lifestyle experts. Craig’s demonstrations will not only be an opportunity to see the country’s top barista in action, but also to get tips and tricks on how to make specialty coffees at home.
Craig, who was crowned SA’s best barista at the national championships last year, heads for Burundi later this month to take part in the African barista championships and to Italy in June to take part in the world Barista championship competition to find the world’s best barista.
Last year saw Craig launch his own coffee roastery, Lineage Coffee, and open a café in Hillcrest in partnership with Stretta Café. Having won the national championship, best espresso and best cappuccino using his own brand of coffee, both Craig and Lineage Coffee are the talk of the town.
Something of a coffee evangelist, Craig believes in sourcing the very best coffee beans from around the world to create his personal blend. He believes it was his intimate knowledge of coffee – sourcing, blending, roasting, pouring – that gave him the edge in the national championships.
Craig’s personal coffee preference is for a light and fruity roast, prepared in an AeroPress coffee filter with a Chemex paper filter that delivers no bitter taste or ground in your cup.
“I want to open people’s mind and taste buds to experiential coffee rather than just keep-me-awake coffee. My demonstration will focus on creating specialty coffees and I’m hoping to create real Alice in Wonderland experience with tastes no-one’s tried before”, says Craig.
Be sure to visit Craig’s demo at the Design Your Life theatre at Decorex Durban.
