The final leg of the Engen Dynamic Cycle Challenge (EDCC) will see 10 professional cycling teams take to the roads in Durban, starting at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday 11 November 2012. The current EDCC series leaders, WWCA are just six points ahead of the Team MTN-Qhubeka, with Westvaal – BMC in third.
After completing the second leg, which took a different form in Port Elizabeth due to the unforeseen weather conditions, the field of pro cyclists now look to gain as many points as possible to take home the series money of R75 000 which will be split according to ranking.
WCCA UCI African Academy Director, JP van zyl said, “I was very happy with the win of the team in Port Elizabeth as it gave us the lead in the series. I will not be at the race in Durban this coming weekend as it is also the African Continental Championships taking place in Barkina Faso, but my heart will be there and it will be a great achievement if the Academy can take the series win.”
The Engen Dynamic Cycle Challenge caters for all levels and offers 100km, 60km or 20km routes. Registration will take place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday 10 November from 09h00 to 17h00.
Engen will again provide a cycling village packed with a host of activities, including food stalls, kiddies play zone, Engen Safe Cycling demonstration, free leg rub downs at the Energising Tent, great prize give-aways and loads more. Added to this, are some fantastic lucky draw prizes, including two Road Bicycles and amazing cycling hampers.
South Africa’s leading petroleum company will once again donate 50% of all the entry fees raised from the Durban leg of the Engen Dynamic Cycle Challenge to the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital Burn’s Unit, as it does at all EDCC events. To date the EDCC has raised over R50 000 through the Cape Town and Port Elizabeth leg. The Durban event will close off the 2012 campaign and hopes to exceed the amount raised last year.
