The Top Gear team have performed some amazing stunts in their live shows, and their daring loop-the-loop in a buggy has had crowds gasping with excitement for the past couple of years.
In Durban they are going one better – two loops weighing eight tons and made from steel have been constructed. Twenty eight tons of ballast are keeping the loops from moving even an inch, and the stunt is so dangerous that the margin for error is tiny.
The driver has to enter the second loop at between 26 and 28 miles an hour. Below 26 and they will fall from the roof of the second loop, above 28 even by a mile an hour, and the G-force will cause the driver to black out. If you stretched the two loops out the length of the track would be 58km. The buggy has been fitted with special hand controls to lock out the accelerator because of the huge G-force. All too exciting, I cannot wait much longer.
This has never been done before anywhere probably because no one has been crazy enough to attempt it!
