The Land Rover Durban Show Jumping Derby will be held on September 5 and 6, 2015 at the Durban Shongweni Club.
This exciting format of show jumping sees competitors jump different styles of obstacles than traditional show jumping, including features such as The Devil’s Dyke, the Road Crossing, the Saint Andrews Cross and the famous Derby Bank, with the event taking place in a Derby or Turf arena.
“This annual event used to be the highlight on the show jumping calendar in KZN and was the only big national level show that used to be run here,” says Shongweni Club committee member Shelly Moore. “In recent years, since the addition of two all-weather arenas at the Shongweni Club, we have the privilege of hosting at least two other national show jumping events in KZN – the Nissan Winter Classic World Cup Qualifier in June each year, as well as the Oxford South African Show Jumping Championships, run over the first weekend in August.”
The organising committee are hoping to attract a number of top riders to this prestigious event – a wonderful opportunity to warm up for the main national Derby in Johannesburg in October and a perfect introduction for younger or less-experienced horses to the Derby-style elements.
It will be a fun day out for the family and everyone is welcome. Entry is free and visitors can enjoy a meal at the Saddle Inn restaurant. There will also be a selection of vendors offering a market-style experience.
