September 16, 2011. Motorists travelling along Umhlanga Rocks Drive and into Herrwood Drive in the vicinity of the KZN Sharks Board couldn’t have failed to take note of the extensive diggings and roadworks taking place there, causing some congestion, particularly at rush hour.
This busy access route to Prestondale and into Umhlanga and beyond has been very congested of late.
Driving down into Umhlanga village there are various construction projects and roadworks taking place, with the most notable being the closure to Marine Drive.
Authorities have requested residents and business owners be patient as the upgrade to the roads and beach boulevard will see significant improvement to the entire area in the long run.
Brian Wright of the Umhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct commented: “I’m not a road engineer, but I believe the new traffic circle going in on Marine Drive at the entrance to Durban View Park is very positive. It has been well designed and will, along with the traffic calming table top pedestrian crossing to be installed at Blue Waters Lane – which links to the promenade / beach – slow traffic down in this high density and pedestrian node.
“This will all make for a safer and more enjoyable experience for residents and visitors, especially if kids are involved.”
