Making Sushi with Dad at Greenstone Shopping Centre
Hosted by John Dory’s on Saturday 16 June, dads tried their hands at making sushi with their darling daughters to celebrate Father’s Day. The morning kicked off with Chef Thuli demonstrating the intricate layers of the California Roll and Tuna Sandwich then handing over to the teams to create their own masterpieces. Team Phillip and Gaby walked away with the ultimate prize of a “Dinner with Dad” for four at John Dory’s and vouchers from Hamleys, myGym, Sorbet Drybar, Bargain Books and more!
The exciting events hosted during the Absolutely Delicious campaign included a visit by Chef, Judge, and Musician J’Something to promote his cookbook “Something’s Cooking” with Bargain Books. Participants cooked with chef and cookery school owner Mimi Jardim who promoted her book ‘My Portuguese Feast’ with Exclusive Books. Customers were treated to delicious samples from participating restaurants and were encouraged to taste delectable dishes as part of their entry to the in centre competition. Benoni SPCA turns 70!
July 2018 marks 70 years of operation for the Benoni SPCA. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals aims to protect all animals from suffering and cruelty. The Benoni SPCA takes in stray, neglected, abused and abandoned animals with the goal of providing them with a second chance at life in a new, loving, safe home. SPCA also participates in community outreach work, assisting with the sterilisation and vaccination of animals in disadvantaged communities. They also undertake routine inspections of abattoirs, pet stores, and any places where cruelty to animals is suspected or reported, in order to remove animals from situations of suffering or abuse and to ensure that the protective laws contained in the Animal Protection Act of 1962 are implemented and upheld.
How You Can Help
There are many ways in which you can help your local SPCA. A few of these are listed below.
Adopt, Don’t Shop
There are hundreds of amazing companion animals of a wide variety of sizes and breeds that are desperately waiting for loving homes. Please consider giving them a second chance rather than supporting the breeding of more animals. Adopting an animal saves two lives – the one you adopt, and the one that can get a second chance as well when a shelter space becomes available.
Donate
SPCA runs on donations from the public. Making a monetary donation of any amount helps the SPCA to help more animals through inspections, investigations, veterinary treatment for abused, ill and neglected animals, rehoming animals, and vaccinating and sterilising animals. Kennel sponsorship is a great way for individuals and companies who are interested in making a monthly contribution to help. The Benoni SPCA also welcomes donations of good quality second hand goods to sell in their charity shop. SMS “SPCA” to 49040 to donate R15 to Benoni SPCA (network and admin fees apply).
