Chateau Gateaux launched nationally their new environmentally friendly branded shopper bag which will be sold at a cost of R20. For every shopper bag sold, R1 will be donated to The Sunflower Fund.
The Sunflower Fund, a non-profit organisation, is a donor recruitment centre and stem cell registry that is part of a global network, dedicated to creating awareness about blood diseases and stem cell donation, recruiting blood stem cell donors and maintaining a registry of committed donors. This is fundamental in offering the hope of life to patients diagnosed with life-threatening blood diseases, like leukaemia, who are in need of a blood stem cell transplant.
Although it only takes two test tubes of blood to become a donor, it costs The Sunflower Fund R3 000 to tissue type this blood sample before it can be included on the Registry. In order to create an effective and representative Registry for all South African patients, The Sunflower Fund has to raise much-needed funds.
