Eye Care Awareness Month is observed from 19 September to 16 October, and Osman’s Optical has some useful tips and information about your eye heath.
Getting headaches, burning and watery eyes? Can you see but you are getting headaches?
Frequent or occasional headaches can be due to eye problems. A child at school or even an adult that suffers from frequent headaches or eye pain may have an eye problem.
You may find that your child will lose interest in doing their homework correctly and on time and complain about eye pain. This can be related to a certain vision problem. A routine eye examination can reveal a variety of issues that can be causing the headaches.
There are eye-related problems that may result in headaches if untreated, such as:
- A Stigmatism: the cornea is not properly shaped, and requires you to squint in order to focus your vision.
- Hyperopia: a condition in which the lens has become hard and inflexible with age, making it difficult to focus.
However, those headaches could also be triggered by something more serious, such as glaucoma or cataracts.
If you are experiencing headaches and it’s been more than a year or two between eye exams, it’s a good idea to see your eye care provider. If you already wear glasses, you may just need a new prescription. But if something else is going on, he or she can identify the problem, and take the proper steps to have you seeing clearly and headache-free.
