Festive shows at Barnyard

By The Ridge Magazine24/12/20103 Mins Read

The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway’s year-end show, The Absolute 80s, offers the perfect opportunity to let your hair down and get ready to cruise into holiday mode.

Pictured, the cast of the Absolute 80s: Nikki Joshua (vocals), Bronwyn Evans (host and vocals), Calli Thomson (keyboards) and Alanda Bothma (vocals).

An 11-piece cast, led by the inimitable Bronwyn Evans, dish up all your favourite 1980s hits, from Sweet Dreams, Don’t Leave Me This Way, Total Eclipse Of The Heart and Walk Like An Egyptian; to House Of Fun, Paradise City and Don’t Worry Be Happy.  The classic movies of the decade are also celebrated with St Elmo’s Fire, Take My Breath Away, Xanadu, Danger Zone and  Ghost Busters. So, dust off your neon garb, dodgy legwarmers and Madonna sandals, and get ready for an awesome festive season party!

The Barnyard Theatre Christmas Eve show has become a tradition with many families who choose to see in the big day in a festive, family-friendly environment. Domestic goddesses are summonsed to cast aside dishes, as a carefree night at The Barnyard is the perfect antidote to holiday mayhem. The show will thrill children of all ages, make grandparents happy and impress out-of-town visitors … all you need to do is kick back and relax.

The Barnyard also promises a festive send-off to 2010 of note and a roof-raising welcome to 2011 with its New Year show.

New year count down

Once the show is over, the band get the chance to indulge in a real session, as they take you through the last 30 minutes of this year before doing the mandatory new year count down. They’ll party with patrons into the first 20 minutes of 2011 after which Durban’s favourite DJ, David Yapp, will keep the music pumping until the early hours.
