End of Days theorists have had a field day after about a million sardines were found dead, floating in a harbour at Redondo Beach, California
This AP video shows a floating feast for pelicans, gulls and other sea life perhaps, but on the other hand, the slick of fish presented a stinky mess for harbour authorities to contend with.
California Fish and Game officials said the fish were sardines that apparently depleted the water of oxygen and suffocated. “All indications are it’s a naturally occurring event,” said Andrew Hughan, a Fish and Game spokesman at the scene.
Nonetheless, the scale of the mass sardine wipe-out was impressive to locals at King Harbour, which shelters about 1 400 boats on south Santa Monica Bay.
Comments on the internet suggest web viewers were more skeptical about the cause of the death of the silver fish. One reader commented that the fish were doing “their best canary in a coalmine impression”, indicating he believed the death of the fish hinted at more sinister goings on beneath the water.
