March 25, 2011. Students from Crawford College La Lucia and associated Crawford schools shone in their performances along with the backing of the outstanding KZN Philharmonic Orchestra at Crawford College La Lucia on Thursday night.
But it was a former pupil, the brilliant visiting soprano Sarah Brandon who stole the show with her virtuoso performance, assisted by the KZNPO and its showman conductor Lyk Temmingh.
There were some standout performances from pupils but, on the whole, congratulations must go to all the pupils who performed on the night, some taking on highly technical pieces. Composers featured on the night included Bach, Vivaldi, Humperdinck, Rogers and Hammerstein, Shostakovich, Mozart, Bizet and many more.
Sarah Brandon captivated the audience, particularly with her version of Cosi fan tutte and an extract from the opera Carmen.

Winner of the 2009 Kathleen Ferrier Competition, Sarah studied at the Royal College of Music in London. She has made numerous high level operatic appearances and has further impressive engagements lined up. She is an Associate Artist of the Classical Opera Company.
