Build a mud pie kitchen
Find a place to create your mud pie kitchen outside. You will need to set up a work surface. Old wooden/plastic crates are good for this, or stacks of bricks bridged by old planks. If you can add the odd shelf somewhere, then even better – it will give you a place to store your utensils and ingredients.
Find some containers and old kitchen equipment for mixing your pies. Plastic washing up bowls and jugs, stainless-steel dishes and plastic or wooden spoons all work well as they won’t break easily and can be left outside.
Then it’s about collecting ingredients. Obviously, mud or dirt is top of the list, but feel free to add leaves, grass, twigs and, well, pretty much anything! And don’t forget water – just to make sure everything sticks together in a gloopy, yucky mess!
Rock Painting
You will need: rounded rocks, acrylic pens or paints, painting apron or old clothes, outdoor table, old cloth or plastic sheet to cover table, pots or buckets. Rocks can be surprisingly fun! If you set up an outdoor craft table, you can decorate them so they become permanent pieces in outdoor games or activities.
