Reader Marius Els sent in this video clip, starring Humphrey the hippo, to Go! magazine. Watch as Els encourages his buddy to turn around and head back towards his enclosure, after Humphrey went for an unscheduled walkies.
The three-year-old hippo Humphrey was orphaned near Hazyview before being rescued and taken to the Rhino and Lion Park.
When Humphrey outgrew his pool at the Lion Park, Marius bought him in February 2008 and released him on his farm near Viljoenskroon.
Apparently, the affable giant adores children, and also loves playing hide and seek.
The Mercury newspaper reported that Humphrey recently escaped his enclosure. His owner believes he is seeking out company as he is heart-sore at the loss of his close friend, a goat who was killed by a jackal.
