Hundreds to compete in WGC Final

By The Ridge Magazine18/10/20132 Mins Read

Kwazulu-Natal’s great golf and tourism legacy sets the backdrop for the 19th and final hosting of the World Golfers Championship in South Africa after being nominated as the host venue for three consecutive years.

Hundreds of golfers from around the world are expected to compete for the coveted world championship title from 26 October to 2 November across four championship courses – Durban Country Club, Princes Grant Golf Estate, Umhlali Country Club and Cotswold Downs Golf Course.

The PGA of South Africa will once again be officiating the Championship as well as the World Golfers Invitational, which is played concurrently to the championship and attracts business people who play and network for investment opportunities.

Craig Clay-Smith, spokesperson for World Golf Events South Africa, the SA event owners and organisers, said, “We are proud to have brought one of the biggest world sporting events to the province for the past three years, ensuring that amateur golfers and business people from all corners of the globe enjoy our magnificent golf courses, friendly hospitality and the holiday experience of a lifetime.”

“Added to this we have boosted tourism, positioned Kwazulu-Natal as the premier golf destination in South Africa and showcased what we have to offer the world on a wider scale of tourism and investment.”

Arthur Mzimela, Team SA Captain and Director of World Golf events SA, was extremely excited about the prospect of winning in 2013.

“We have an extremely strong team this year and can expect to put on a great challenge against teams of the best amateur golfers in the world. We have come as close as the top three but this may be our year for the number one spot”.
