The 2012 Indigenous Garden Show takes place on the weekend of 21 and 22 April and features six magnificent gardens, with a tea garden hosted by Forest View Primary School. Whether you’re looking for a day out with friends and family or inspiration for your garden, there’s something for everyone.

Tickets: R40 each at the gardens on the day or beforehand at Richden’s, Waterfall and Kloof Spar. Children under 12 are free.

Craft stalls at Forest View Primary School will be focusing on recycled, up-cycled products and green technology. A wide selection of indigenous plants will be on sale from the usual nurseries. Local musicians, art displays, book promotions and guest speakers will add to the lively atmosphere. These include Steve Woodhall speaking about butterflies of the Highway area and Steve Smith explaining how to co-exist with monkeys.
All funds raised will be used by Kloof Conservancy for the preservation of nature for our children and future generations to respect and enjoy.

The former garden of renowned Dr Ian Garland, this property boasts many trees creating a ‘Botanical Garden’ with a wide variety of species as well as an interesting forest floor including a boardwalk.
64 Alamein Road, Kloof – Staffan Darnolf
A stunning, tranquil garden that makes clever use of texture, repetition and contrast, creating clean, flowing lines.
13 Valley Drive, Forest Hills – Helen Terblanche
Winner of the 2011 ‘Garden of the Year Award’. This garden has sweeping lawns interspersed with beautifully landscaped beds surrounded by natural grasslands and forest areas.
34A Kloof View Road, Forest Hills – Viv Francis and Pandora Lewis
This formerly exotic garden was placed 2nd in the 2011 ‘Medium-sized Garden’competition. It has breathtaking views of Krantzkloof Gorge and is a good example that indigenous can be vibrant and colourful.
7a Cliff Road, Hillcrest – Kerry and Colyn Townsend
This property bordering Springside Nature Reserve has steep banks terraced with natural rock holding a variety of aloes, succulents, proteas, and other indigenous and exotic plants. Pots, arches and water features add interest and atmosphere.
32 Forbes Drive, St Hellier, Gillitts – Tricia and Peter Hoffmann
Recently aired by ‘The gardener’ on television, this garden has a natural ‘bushveld-type’ atmosphere thus enticing birds and other creatures to make it their home. It features meandering pathways, a stream, a formal knot garden and vegetable garden with sundial.
