My children, the London based ones, are always amazed when they come to Durban and people start wishing them a great weekend on Wednesday. In London we are so work centric that weekends tend to become recovery time from a long tiring week.
I may be naive but I think the balance here is better, and I coast into Fridays with a big smile on my face. This weekend in Durban there is plenty to do. What about going to the wonderful Beswitched at the Catalina Theatre, which will transport you back to Durban in the 80s and 90s, memories in every line.
Tomorrow, the Sharks are playing their semi final match at home. Big excitement in this house, please don’t rain. If you don’t stay to braai, head over to the Last Night of the Proms and watch the Philharmonic play Rule Britannia. If you still have energy, Origin turns three tomorrow and there will be a free bar. You should be ready for bed after that.
On Sunday, clear you head with a five km walk for the Organ Donor Foundation starting at the Amphitheatre on Snell Parade. In the afternoon, head to Botanic Gardens with your picnic basket and watch Goldfish and Jeremy Loops sing their hearts out.
