Jes Foord’s fairytale wedding

Everyone loves a happy ending, which is why The Crest was there when Hillcrest’s very own heroine Jes Foord got married.

It was a perfect day, the perfect venue: a canopy of trees over the rustic setting at Pecanwood Wedding and Conference Centre in Howick. And fitting, somehow, that beautiful Jes Foord arrived at her wedding in a Land Rover Defender 110.

Saying “I do”

The ceremony was short and simple: “Today’s the day I start a new chapter. Today’s the day I become whole. You’re my soul mate: all that I am, I give to you. I love you,” she said to Jono. When he kissed his bride, there wasn’t a dry eye to be seen. It was a fairytale ending to her story.

Jes, who survived a traumatic gang rape in 2008, has become an icon to many South African women. Her astonishing courage and fortitude have made her a heroine not just within her community and province, but around the country.

She’s known Jono “forever”. “He was my brother’s friend years ago”. They became re-acquainted two years ago and she knew straightaway that “he was the one”. They’re both just 24.

Happy days

The day after, Jes and Jono were headed for Splashy Fen. “I haven’t missed Splashy for nine years,” she said with glee. “I’m not about to miss it this year!” And the following week they were off to Margate on Jono’s Harley Davidson, to National Bike Week.

Here’s wishing them a long and happy life. They deserve it.
