She entered Westminster Abbey a commoner, and walked out with three new titles: Duchess, Countess and Baroness.
The Queen has given Prince William and Kate Middleton the new titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
And since William has also become the Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus, Kate is now the Countess of Strathearn and Baroness Carrickfergus.
Today proves – once again – that the Brits are almost unbeatable when it comes to pomp and ceremony. And with the world’s affairs being in such an appalling state at the moment, the Royal Wedding was just the thing to cheer us all up.
The bride looked stunning in a dress by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen. While the name of the designer was the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, the cat was out of the bag last night when “someone” was sneaked into the Goring Hotel where Kate was staying. Although people couldn’t see her face, other designers recognised her shoes.
There were a few amusing moments during the ceremony.
As the bride began walking down the aisle with her father, Prince Harry turned to look and then whispered to his brother: “Wait till you see her!”
And when it came to the part where Prince William said: “for richer or poorer”, Kate couldn’t suppress a smile.
Kate will only become a Princess when Charles becomes King. Until then, her proper title is Catherine, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge.
When William becomes King, she will be Queen Catherine.
But since she married a Prince, to the romantics and the media, she’ll likely be known as Princess Kate.
