Kloof Country Club Ladies Golf Section held their annual Charity Golf Day recently and nominated VEMA (Voluntary Emergency Medical Assistance) as the sole beneficiary for the funds raised on the day.
Lady Captain Sue Evans said, “This is the only fundraising event on the Ladies’ Golf Section calendar and a huge effort was made during the year to raise as much money as possible for the year’s chosen charity or charities.
This year we decided to make VEMA the sole beneficiary of funds raised as it is such a wonderful organisation to support and an essential part of our community.
We were blessed with generous sponsors, the main ones being Champagne Sports Resort, Fields Hill Garage (who donated an amount to cover the purchase of the main golf prizes) and Hirsch’s (who donated four gifts). A multitude of other local businesses and our wonderful lady golfers all donated items to make our prize table at the Charity Day Prize Giving a sight to behold. Thanks to them all, the event was a great success,” said Sue.
The event raised R25 000 for VEMA (Voluntary Emergency Medical Assistance). “This generous donation will be put forward to the purchase of much-needed equipment for the unit,” said Dr Tim Hardcastle.
VEMA is believed to be the first totally voluntary first response unit of its kind in South Africa. As a first response unit, the VEMA members respond to any medical emergency call and stabilise the patients prior to the arrival of an ambulance. VEMA is autonomous of all emergency services and other organisations.
