Kloof sub-station dispute resolved

By The Crest Magazine16/07/20121 Min Read
eThekwini has bought the sub-station on Willingdon Road

The drama and concern surrounding the old Transnet sub-station on Willingdon Road in Kloof appears to finally be nearing an end.

After pressure exerted by Councillor Rick Crouch, Transnet has approved the sale of the property to eThekwini. “I receive an email from Transnet confirming that the sale had been approved and the Deed of Sale had been forwarded to Transnet’s legal department for final signatures,” said Councillor Crouch.

“Once the sale has been completed the maintenance and security of the property will then become the responsibility of eThekwini, which means that I will have much more authority over the caretaking of the property,” he said.

The property has been purchased for the Electricity Department as the site of a new electrical sub-station to serve the Kloof area. A total of R35.5 million has been budgeted for construction of the sub-station.

The budget allocation has been split over the 2012 – 2015 financial years; R0.5M in 2012/2013 R17M in 2013/2014 and R22M in 2014/2015.
