Making dreams come true

Land Rover Club and Reach for a Dream

On 9 June 2012, Reach For A Dream and the Land Rover Club took seven boys and their dads out for the day in celebration of Father’s Day and a project known as Captain Courage.

It was a beautiful day in Waterfall as all the members of the Land Rover Club gathered at Waterfall Shopping Centre on Inanda Road – all 29 vehicles were waiting eagerly for the boys and their dads to arrive.

“Our brave and excited boys were taken on a ride of their lives as we headed down to the Umgeni River on a 4×4 trail through deep rivers and up rocky mountains,” said Shirley Groenewald, project and outings co-ordinator for Reach for a Dream.

One happy father and son pair show off their certificate after the 4x4 course

“It was quite a nail biting event as we watched each Land Rover travel through the rivers, hoping that the water was not going to take our boys and their dads for a swim. All in one piece our dream boys and their dads made it safely to the beautiful rock river where we stayed for the afternoon and had a braai. At the end of the afternoon all our boys were rewarded with a Captain Courage medal for their bravery and a certificate from the Land Rover Club for their participation in the 4×4 trail.”

Captain Courage is a “boys only” project filled with adventurous activities to reward these children for their bravery. Being diagnosed with a life threatening illness is a very challenging experience for a young boy. By taking part in courageous activities, our boys are given the chance to show off their fighting spirit.
