Forty-seven Grade 7 learners from the Hillcrest Christian Academy visited Hirsch’s Hillcrest branch recently to learn how a large retail store operates.
“The idea of allowing learners into the store is to allow them to experience the retail business and how the system works,” says Sarah Poulsom from Hirsch.
The learners were divided into groups and taken around the showroom as well as the warehouse, where they were introduced to stock controllers Clinton Chunder, Vinesh Maharaj and Sagren Govender, who explained how stock arrives, gets put on the system and is moved to the showroom for retail.
They also had the opportunity to meet the Sales, and Spares and Repairs Team.
“Our learners walked away with a good understanding of how a large retail operation works” said Keith Hawyes, HCA Grade 7 teacher. Watch out for the class of 2016 – there’s a crowd of businessmen and women on the way up!
