Have hope, speak up and design a great life for yourself.
This is the advice of well-known newspaper columnist and relationship therapist, Rod Smith, who will be back in KwaZulu-Natal for a speaking tour from 7 July to 10 August. He is taking bookings from organisations who would like him to share his unique approach to life and living.
“It has been my privilege to help a wide range of people from the business sector to charities, schools, lecture societies and religious groups,” said Durban-born Smith, who is currently based in the USA and visited his home country for the first time last year after an absence of 12 years.
“I loved seeing my home city again last year. I loved the vibe, the people, the diversity and the intricacies of people’s stories. I loved introducing my two sons to the life I left.”
Smith is a respected minister, teacher, counsellor and family therapist and adopts a multi-dimensional approach to his presentations. His topics are many and varied, ranging from communication and family dynamics to resolving territorial squabbles and leadership conflicts. He is happy to talk on any subject and tailors his presentations to suit the occasion or organisation.
“I often size up an audience and I go from there,” Smith says. “A theme might be voice training – helping people to show up, stand up and speak up. I think it is always better to speak out than be quiet and regret it later.”
“I had the pleasure of meeting large numbers of people during my visit last year and I look forward to meeting many more this year.” Smith said. “My only regret is that, after this trip, I won’t be back again for quite a few years as things change in my sons’ lives.”
