On 26 November 2014, Longmynd Gallery in Hillcrest was officially opened, with a lovely evening spent enjoying beautiful local artwork and mingling in the courtyard at Vicky Cristina’s.

Guest speaker Andries Botha had the crowd enthralled with the story of his Warwick Triangle elephants and spoke passionately about the power of truth in art.
“I’ve always wondered why there weren’t more dedicated galleries in the Upper Highway,” says Longmynd Gallery owner Brian Goldie. “There are so many talented artists in the area, with new ones emerging all the time. I bought this building with the vision of a restaurant and art gallery. Together with Vicky Cristina’s, we have brought that vision to life.”
The stunning setting lends itself to a top-notch cultural experience. Enjoy a cup of coffee or lunch and browse the beautiful artwork on display.
“Local artist Sue Whitmore will arrange our exhibitions, choosing the very best mix of emerging and established artists,” continues Brian.
The Hillcrest Aids Centre made use of the space throughout September and October, exhibiting the Dreams for Africa Chair, along with photographs by Matthew Willman. This resulted in the sale of the chair to a private collector from Cape Town for over R800 000. Those funds will go towards creating a craft hub at the centre, where local crafters are able to sell their work, creating a sustainable livelihood in the process.
