While you may be looking forward to some time off, relaxed lazy days or fun-filled summer days full of activities, you may be unsure of what to wear to feel comfortable and look fabulous this holiday season.
Whether you’re going to a swanky party, a casual braai or are just lazing in the sun, make sure you have some of these essential items that will make you look fabulous no matter what the occasion.
A pair of chandelier earrings: Easy to pop into your handbag, you can add them to your outfit anytime. The great thing about earrings is they won’t overdress your casual look, but can add some bling to a party outfit if worn with dancing shoes or a fashionable clutch bag. Woolies has a fabulous selection of colourful earrings this year.
A cozzie you feel fabulous in: I went costume shopping recently and was amazed how hard it was to find what I was looking for. The key is to be willing to try on a multitude of different colours and styles until you find what you are looking for. So don’t attempt this if you are having a “fat day”. If you can’t be objective, ask a trusted friend to go with you. A fabulous cozzie will keep you from hiding out in the bathroom when everyone else is in the pool.
A pair of just below the knee cropped trousers: Avoid ¾ trousers as they just make your hips look bigger and your legs look shorter. Rather select trousers that end just below the knee. If you don’t believe me, stand in the mirror with one of your ¾ pants on. Tuck up the hem of one leg to just below the knee and look at the difference! Avoid styles that have several pockets and excessive detail as these will make the tummy and bum area look bigger than it is. Rather opt for simple styling and a slimmer look.

A dress-up top or blouse: No matter what you have planned this holiday, it’s ideal to have a top or blouse that can dress up your look in an instant. One of my favourites this summer is a watercolour print chiffon blouse that can easily worn with jeans, casual trousers, a skirt or cropped trousers. Add your chandelier earrings and you will be ready for any occasion.

Summer cover-up: No matter how hot the days are, the evenings can be a little nippy. Have a shrug of some kind ready to throw over your shoulders to maintain your chic look.
Cozzie cover-up: Whether you are happy to “bare it all” or not, a cozzie cover-up is always useful if you want to pop in to the shops or a café on the way home. Look out for a fab cotton dress or sarong that will do the trick. Avoid baggy styles as they will just make you look shapeless. If the dress you love has no shape, simply add a belt to give it a waist.
Remember that comfy doesn’t have to mean sloppy. Just like any other event, a little wardrobe planning will go a long way to help you feel fabulous no matter what the occasion.
