Highway Hospice
Started in the home of founder Greta Schoeman in 1982, Highway Hospice moved to 59 Locksley Drive a year later and has continued taking care of terminally ill patients ever since. Family can visit any time, there are no set rules, and home visits are also part of this organisation’s services – ensuring palliative care for all. There’s support in every way, at no charge. This is why donations from the public and fundraising events play such an important role. The Tree of Light is a fundraiser that takes place annually close to Christmas. A 12m tree with 9 000 globes shines brightly in Jameson Park during December, commemorating loved ones. If you would like to remember a loved one, you can donate R60 for a globe. Any support over the festive season is much appreciated.

The joy of giving is a sentiment Tayla-Anne Goss, Donor Relations Manager at Focus on iThemba, holds high – especially during the festive season. “The significance of quality education and investing in our youth motivates our team, and towards the end of the year we try and go the extra mile for the wonderful children in our partnering pre-schools.”
Set to create many smiles with Christmas parties at the pre-schools, iThemba has also added a new project this year. With the Christmas Gift Box initiative children at Waterfall Pre-Primary and Prep lovingly created gift boxes which were distributed among pupils at the Siyajabula and Entokozweni pre-schools. iThemba would love to expand this reach to more of their partnering pre-schools, so if you can help please get in touch.

Animal Anti-Cruelty League
The Durban and Pietermaritzburg ACCL branch, set on 7,7 hectares in Hammarsdale, will be celebrating 60 years in January. ACCL started with one goal in mind: to do whatever it could to prevent the endless cruelty society inflicts on innocent and helpless animals on a daily basis. Working mainly in informal settlements and outlying underprivileged areas, AACL does not rely on communities to bring their animals to it, but proactively goes into the field to seek out animals in need and assisting the community in the feeding of their pets. ACCL’s primary objective is sterilisation and educating youngsters on the care and wellbeing of animals. They also have cats and dogs up for adoption, a lovely tea garden and boarding hotels for cats and dogs – which take care of your beloved pets’ utmost needs while you are away on holiday.
