Mooimaak Makeovers: Bernice du Plessis

By Mums Mail Magazine14/11/20183 Mins Read

Bernice du Plessis, a widow, looked a lot older than her years – thanks to a life marked by tragedies that included losing her youngest son in a motorcycle accident. Also, after losing 20kg via banting and many years of smoking, her skin was deeply lined.

Fortunately, if you’ve been watching Mooimaak, kykNET’s most exciting makeover show, you’ll know this was nothing the Skin Renewal team lead by Skin Renewal’s Dr Dalize Willemse and therapist Johandi Koch couldn’t handle. In fact, Bernice’s metamorphosis was so incredible she now feels she has a newer lease on life and might even have a second shot at being lucky in love.

Bernice’s treatments

Lasers: CO2 fractional laser and Laser Genesis
Light: Photo Dynamic Therapy
Injectables: Dermal fillers, botulinum toxin, carboxytherapy and Xela Redermalisation
Extra: Jett Plasma eye rejuvenation, a non-surgical neck lift using threads, glycolic peels, cryotherapy and transdermal mesotherapy

Not your average facial

At Skin Renewal, they believe that more treatments are better than one and now offer solutions packages that include a combination of treatments proven to enhance each other’s effects. As Bernice’s skin was in dire need of more skin-plumping collagen, she was given a series of Carboxy-Laser facial treatments that include carboxytherapy, Laser Genesis and a glycolic peel.

Each of the treatments simulated collagen while the peel revealed new, fresh skin; the laser accelerates healing and carboxytherapy improved circulation. “My favourite was the carboxytherapy,” said Bernice. “I loved the immediate feel of the skin being puffed up and I could feel the skin rejuvenation during the treatments!”

The injection of youth

Another way the Mooimaak team tackled Bernice’s wrinkles was via a 3D Liquid Facelift. It involves using botulinum toxin injections as well as hyaluronic acid dermal fillers.

As the botulinum toxin temporarily inhibits muscle movement, wrinkles in the upper half of the face caused by repetitive expressions, like frowning or squinting, are forced to relax. The result is a much smoother-looking complexion. The fillers these were used to plump up large areas that had lost volume, like her cheeks, as well as any fine lines in the lower half of her face. Smoker’s lines – be gone!

A little lift

You don’t have to go under the knife to lift your neck. Bernice was a great candidate for a non-surgical neck lift that involved using threads to lift up her sagging skin. Dr Dalize used three different types – Silhouette Soft, PDO monofilament and anchor threads – that are inserted under the skin and pulled in a way that it creates a lovely, ‘lifted’ look. The results are immediate and, as the threads encourage the skin to create its own collagen, the effect improves over time, lasting for as long as up to two years.

Bernice was completely thrilled with her transformation. “Within a week, I was receiving compliments!” And we think you’ll agree that her new, much smoother complexion is most definitely a look to love.
