Running from Wednesday 16th to Thursday 20th January at the Catalina Theatre, the Musho Festival of Theatre once again features some amazing pieces with a strongly African theme.
All twenty productions celebrate the art of one and two handed theatre, from mime to comedy, physical theatre to storytelling. I am really looking forward to ‘Sometimes I Laugh Like my Sister’, a piece about Kate Peyton, the journalist killed in 2005 by Somalian Islamic radicals, and Le Chop TV by the multi talented and decorative Cobus van Heerden, who is fast becoming a stalwart of the South African theatre scene in all aspects from writing to performing. Support him or lose him, this boy is going places. This time he introduces us to Benson Schwenson, a self-confessed ego maniac with a Robin Hood philosophy…..
There are so many gems it is hard to pick, try Twelve….about the last days of South Africa, or The Spinster by Kahla David which is bawdy and funny in turns, there is even a puppet master class on Monday 21st January from 9am to 12pm, so much choice and such quality is rare in one place.
