National championship motorcycle racing returned to Durban for the first time in 25 years in front of a huge crowd at the old Durban Airport with the Monster Energy SuperGP Champions Trophy.
In a dramatic, incident-filled day, local rider Mathew Scholtz of Umhlanga Rocks dominated the weekend in the super 600 class on board his Kawazaki ZX6R. Scholtz was on debut for his new team, Anasis Racing and delivered a superb performance to take top honours.
He started from pole position after setting the fastest times in qualifying and comfortably won both races in an awesome display of controlled racing at the brand new circuit.
The next round of the National Championship takes place at Zwartkop in Gauteng on the weekend of the 13/14th September 2014.
