North Coast Bone Density and Breast Care Centre is a screening facility that specialises in digital mammography. This all female team of board-certified Radiologists and Radiographers are committed to excellence and aim to help each of our patients feel comfortable while providing an accurate and efficient assessment and diagnosis.
The chief benefit of a mammogram is to detect breast cancer early – when it is most treatable, approximately two years before it can be felt as a lump.
The American College of Radiology and the Society for Breast Cancer Awareness recommend that women start screening at age 40 – even if they have no symptoms or family history of breast cancer.
If you are younger and have a family history of breast cancer, please contact us to discuss your needs.
For every 1 000 women who have a screening mammogram:
- 100 are recalled to get more imaging or ultrasound
- 20 are recommended for a needle biopsy
- 5 are diagnosed with breast cancer
You do not require a referral for a routine mammogram, so please feel free to schedule an appointment at your convenience.
If your breasts are particularly sensitive, try to schedule your appointment seven to 10 days after the onset of your last menstrual cycle when your breasts are at their least tender. This will help to minimise the discomfort.
They also specialise in breast ultrasound and bone density scans.
