Bringing up a young family can be trying, and the urge to want to run away from it all needs to be resisted at all times. But that’s exactly what Jane Brewer did. She ran. OK, not literally.
“I started training for endurance events after my children were born. It was more of a release, and to have some ‘me’ time,” she says. I initially trained for fun – I didn’t intend to be too competitive – but then it got out of hand!”
Her husband Myles also got caught up in the action, and accompanied Jane when she competed in world championships in New Zealand, Madeira, Switzerland and the States. “It’s a nice excuse to travel,” laughs Jane. Somehow I could think of easier excuses, but apart from having finely toned bodies the runners also enjoy the social side of training.
