On Saturday 11 October 2014, Dave Bishop will be presenting a half-day course on “A Beginner’s Guide to Bird Identification” at the Paradise Valley Nature Reserve Conference Centre, Pinetown.
Dave is extremely well-known for his informative courses and outings, as well as his notable public speaking. He is planning a lengthy trip away from the beginning of next year, so this is an opportunity to either improve your birding skills or to get an excellent grounding (for those just starting out), with one of the top birders in the club.
On Sunday 12 October there will be a visit to Shongweni Dam (NB: entrance fee by credit card or Wild/Rhino card only – no cash) at 06h30. This gives you an opportunity to try out your new skills in IDing the birds. It will finish at 10h00 and end with a ‘bring your own breakfast’ at the picnic site. Bird Guide books will be available for sale at the workshop from the club shop.
Registration for the bird course will start at 08h30, with the workshop getting underway at 09h00 and running until 13h00 on Saturday 11 October.
Entry costs R80 per BirdLife member and R100 per non-member. Bring a writing pad and pen or pencil and binoculars for afterwards. Brief notes will be provided but it is recommended that you use a guide book as well.
Tea, coffee and refreshments will be available on arrival and during mid-morning. If you would like to stay for lunch afterwards, please bring your own picnic baskets.
