Psychic octopus Paul, who achieved world renown during this year’s soccer World Cup in South Africa for correctly predicting scores, has died at his home in an aquarium in Germany.
It’s now believed the Germans have been secretly grooming a successor to the tentacled wizard, perhaps in preparation for World Cup 2014 in Brazil.
“Management and staff at the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre were devastated to discover that oracle octopus Paul, who achieved global renown during the recent World Cup, had passed away overnight,” the aquarium said in a statement.
