Congratulations to the Pinetown German Shepherd Dog Federation Club which, this weekend, donated three protective vests to the Durban Metropolitan Police Dog Unit. The occassion was commemorated with a demonstration by these professional dogs.
At a cost of R3 500 per vest, they will help to protect these phenomenal dogs as they go into dangerous situations, including apprehending suspected criminals, tracking and searching empty buildings. The Durban dog unit is based at Kenyon Howden Road.
Police dogs begin their training at four and a half months and are regularly re-tested to ensure that they are 100% obedient and ready for the difficult work that they take on. They have one handler for life and the bond between them is obvious.
A fourth vest was donated by Imperial Armour.
