Bridge Ministries received R150 000 from the Alexander Forbes Community Trust in support of 600 learners from Quarry Heights Primary School, many of whom are affected by HIV/AIDS.

The donation will be managed by Bridge Ministries selected by Alexander Forbes’ as an ideal partner for its In 4 Life programme, which seeks to promote the continuous development and support of orphans and vulnerable children in South Africa.
Dr Ali Bacher, who addressed the launch in his capacity as trustee of the Alexander Forbes Community Trust, was delighted that Bheki Ngwane and Arthur Du Plessis, representatives from the Department of Education, and Nomvuzo Tshabalala, Deputy Mayor of Durban, attended the launch as this “acknowledged the Trusts commitment to partner with government in South Africa’s struggle against disease, poverty and illiteracy.”

The In 4 Life programme was established to provide care and social support to children from early childhood development right through to tertiary level. Thereafter, suitable participants have the opportunity to join the Alexander Forbes’ internship program.
Bridge Ministries is a Public Benefit Organisation, which helps people overcome addictions, poverty or trauma, as well as HIV/AIDS, by implementing capacity building programmes with emphasis on supporting children.
Amongst other things, Bridge Ministries provides food during school hours, weekly soccer training and a feeding scheme for all children in the area during school holidays.
In presenting the cheque to Dave Meisner, Chairman of Bridge Ministries South Africa, the Group Chief Executive of Alexander Forbes Edward Kieswetter said that “this donation will empower Bridge Ministries to deliver our In 4 Life program in support of governments’ ongoing efforts to eradicate poverty, disease and illiteracy amongst orphans and vulnerable children.”
According to the 2011 World AIDS Day Report, there were approximately 2.14 million AIDS orphans worldwide. “This places enormous responsibility on all of us to join resources in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS. Our philosophy is building long-term relationships with community structures and I have no doubt that this initiative will be of no exception,” concluded Kieswetter.
