A road trip is a fantastic way to explore locally and it can be done in one day. Living in Durban, one is spoilt for choice when it comes to day trips – you can venture into the Midlands, or take a long drive along the North or South Coast for a day at the beach.
Some planning is needed to make this a memorable day for the whole family.
Day Trip Tips
- Leave early so that the day is not wasted.
- Make sure your car is roadworthy.
- Fill up on petrol, check your oil and water and well as your spare tyre.
- Carry bottled water in case of an emergency.
- Take some plastic carrier bags so that car does not become messy.
- Take a USB with all your favourite tracks on it so you can sing and dance while road tripping.
- Make sure your phones are charged and you have a charging cable in your car.
- Don’t forget snacks for the road.
- Wet wipes for cleaning up any spills.
- Carry light jackets or jerseys in case the weather changes.
- Travel with family or friends.
- If travelling with friends; split the cost of petrol so it becomes more affordable to do this again.
- Carry a spare set of clothing for the little ones, including towels.
- Pack a picnic blanket that can double as a cover for your seats.
- Keep the little ones entertained with a bag of small toys and a few books. Play games in the car like “I spy”.
So what are you waiting for? Time to plan a road trip these holidays!
